Calcifc tendinitis

Calcified tendinitis refers to calcium salt deposition in the tendon, the most common in the rotator cuff tendon of the shoulder joint, more common in 30-50 years old exercise people, the incidence of diabetes patients is higher. Calcific tendinitis does not always cause symptoms, and pain usually resolves after 1 to 4 weeks.

Differential diagnosis

๐Ÿ”น The causes of calcium salt deposition may be related to tendon degeneration, ischemia and hypoxia, local pressure increase and other factors.

๐Ÿ”น Calcific tendonitis has certain pathological processes (such as inflammation, fever, hypoxia, shock, etc.). They can be seen not only in different diseases, but a disease can include several pathological processes. Therefore, the pathological process itself is not a disease, will not exist independently, but a part of the disease), which can be divided into three stages: pre-calcification, calcification and post-calcification.

๐Ÿ”น Fibrocartilaginous transformation may occur in areas with relatively little blood supply in the tendon in the early stage of calcification, and patients are generally asymptomatic at this stage. During the calcification stage, calcium is gradually deposited, and the cartilage is gradually replaced and eroded. After that, the lesion may enter a quiescent stage without any clinical symptoms.

๐Ÿ”น The duration of the quiescent phase varies until the calcium salt begins to be absorbed and the dead space is filled by granulation tissue.

๐Ÿ”น Extreme pain can occur during the absorption phase, and most patients seek treatment at this time. In the later stage of calcification, the granulation tissue transforms into mature collagen tissue and reforms tendons, which may also cause pain.

Clinical signs and symptoms

  1. Severe shoulder pain can occur in the calcium salt absorption stage, and pain can wake up at night.

  2. Obvious tenderness at the greater tuberosity of the humerus.

  3. Patients usually seek treatment during the absorption phase of the calcification stage when the pain is severe and they wake up at night; There is also a subset of patients who are found incidentally during evaluation for impingement syndrome.

  4. Weakness of the affected limb and difficulty in lifting the arm.

Treatment

1. The affected limb is weak, difficult to lift, and the shoulder joint movement may be limited in the late stage; Many physicians and doctors will use electromagnetic focused shockwave therapy machine to treat chronic Calcifc tendinitis. The mechanism is that the high-intensity electromagnetic energy generated by shock wave will cause microtrauma to the site of chronic calcifying tendonitis, so as to stimulate local blood flow to achieve the treatment purpose.

2. About 50 to 70 percent of patients experience improvement after 1 or 2 sessions of electromagnetic focus shockwave therapy.

3. Because some patients have more pain in the affected area, patients will have slightly unbearable pain during the treatment process, so it is sometimes necessary to carry out under anesthesia.

Why choose electromagnetic focused shockwave therapy to treat chronic calcific tendonitis?

๐Ÿ”น Shock-wave therapy rarely has complications

๐Ÿ”น Non-invasive and patient tolerable

๐Ÿ”น Humanized handle, no need to replace gel pad, easy operation and low maintenance cost

๐Ÿ”น Simple and rich interface operation, with operation guidelines and treatment parameters for corresponding symptoms and parts

๐Ÿ”น Accurate and deep treatment, focusing directly to the tendon layer to a depth of 6CM, and energy divergence depth up to 12CM

๐Ÿ”น Water cooling system is adopted, which allows the handle to work continuously without downtime, making treatment more comfortable
