◉ Radial shockwave therapy is a method for the treatment of orthopedic disorders .

    • Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that stimulates the body's natural healing process. It can relieve pain and promote healing of injured tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissues. It accomplishes this by releasing growth factors in the injured tissue.
    • There are two main types of shockwave treatments - low energy and high energy. Low energy shockwave treatments are typically painless or mildly painful. High energy shockwave treatments can be painful and sometimes require anesthesia.
    • A course of ESWT treatment normally requires one treatment session a week for 3 consecutive weeks. Treatment should not be more than 2 weeks apart. A follow up appointment will be arranged for 4-6 weeks after the last session to assess the response to ESWT.
    • Ultrasound Therapy is mainly used to improve the healing rate of certain soft tissues by increasing blood flow to an area in order to accelerate the resolution time of the inflammatory process. This stimulates the production of collagen (the main protein in tendons and ligaments) during tissue healing. Ultrasound therapy in chiropractic care is used to stimulate blood flow, which in turn helps to decrease inflammation, increase tissue relaxation, and break down any internal scar tissue so that patients can enjoy greater mobility.
    • The effect of therapeutic ultrasound via an increase in local blood flow may help reduce local swelling and chronic inflammation, and, according to some studies, promote bone fracture healing. The intensity or power density of the ultrasound can be adjusted depending on the desired effect. A higher power density (measured in watt/cm2) may soften or breakdown scar tissue.
